A family in stone,
since 1976.

Living Stone is the editorial-grade studio of the Melamparampil Group of Concerns — a family business that has been working in natural stone, in Kerala, for nearly half a century. We are sister to Kohinoor Floors and Mel Floorings, and we share a Sri Lanka marble processing unit, an Aluva fabrication facility, and showrooms across the state — held to a single, uninterrupted standard.

Calacatta marble slab — selected at the quarry
— 50 years 1976 — 2026

"Calacatta — bookmatched"

Carrara, Italy · Block selected on-site

We do not see ourselves as merchants of stone. We see ourselves as keepers of a fifty-year promise — that when a Kerala family opens our door, what they touch, take home and live with for the next thirty years will be exactly what we said it was.

The Group

Four houses, one family.

The Melamparampil Group of Concerns operates as four interlinked houses — a parent and three working sister companies. Slab, fabrication and installation flow seamlessly between them, under a single family standard.

The Chronology

Half a century, measured in stone.

Six moments that shaped the group — and the standard we hold ourselves to today.

  1. 1976

    A family begins, in stone.

The Melamparampil Group is established as a family business in Kerala. The state's post-construction boom is years away; the family commits to natural stone as the long-game material.

  2. 1983

    Kohinoor Floors opens.

The first sister concern in flooring takes root. South Kerala discovers Italian marble, granite tiles and a level of finish that hadn't been seen locally.

  3. 1990s

    Sri Lanka — overseas processing.

A marble processing unit is set up at the Export Processing Zone, Mirigama. The group begins importing block and processing in-house — bypassing middlemen, controlling grade.

  4. 2000s

    Aluva — vertical integration.

Cutting, shaping and polishing facility at Industrial Development Area, Muppathadom. Slab → floor, all under one roof. A rarity in Kerala then. A rarity now.

  5. 2003

    Living Stone — the atelier.

A more curated, editorial counterpart to the flooring business. Quarry-block selection in Italy and Brazil. Bookmatched walls, statement islands, the slab gallery experience.

  6. Today

    A half-century in stone.

1,000+ projects delivered. Four sister concerns. Two countries. One uninterrupted family standard — the same one we've been keeping since 1976.

The Footprint

Quarry to floor, in-house.

Most Kerala stone businesses are middlemen. We import block, process it in our own Sri Lanka unit, fabricate at our Aluva facility, and install through our own teams. Six locations across two countries — every step under our own roof.

What We Believe

Four non-negotiables.

Standards we keep when nobody is watching, because the stone outlasts the conversation.

— 01

Provenance over Promise

We name the quarry, the block, the country. Every imported slab arrives with a certificate of origin and absorption. If a dealer can't name the quarry, the slab isn't what they say it is.

— 02

Slab over Photograph

Stone cannot be sold from photos. Veining, undertone, the way light catches a face — these only resolve under accurate gallery lighting. We hold the inventory, not just a catalogue.

— 03

Climate before Aesthetic

Kerala's 80%+ humidity destroys the wrong stone. We'll steer you away from a beautiful slab if it won't survive your floor — and we'll explain why, every time.

— 04

Discretion as Default

Some of our most-prized residential commissions will never be photographed for our portfolio. The client's privacy is not negotiable. The work speaks for itself.

Manifesto

We are not in the business of selling stone.
We are in the business of helping you choose well, once.

Most of what passes for stone in Kerala today fails within a decade. Wrong material for the climate. Wrong grade for the price. Wrong sealer for the season. The work that survives — that you'll pass on to your children — comes from one decision made well, by people who care.

In the Family

Our sister concerns.

For ceramic and vitrified flooring, marble tile work and decorative stone outside our specialised slab gallery, we direct clients to our long-standing sister concern.
