Carrara White, engineered

This is not natural Carrara marble. It is an engineered slab — crushed mineral bound in resin — manufactured to resemble Carrara’s white ground and grey veining. We list it separately from our natural Carrara White on purpose, because the two are different products at different prices and they fail in different ways.

Why anyone chooses it over the real thing

• It repeats. Every slab is the same. For a commercial fit-out spanning forty panels, or a client who cannot accept slab-to-slab variation, that predictability is the entire point.
• It is non-porous. No sealing, and it does not stain from spilled coffee or turmeric the way natural marble will.
• It is cheaper than a comparable grade of natural Carrara.

Why you might not

• It is resin-bound, so it does not tolerate heat. A hot pan will mark it permanently. Natural stone will not.
• It fades in direct sun. The resin yellows under prolonged UV, so this is an indoor material only. On a Kerala balcony or a sun-struck window sill it will discolour within a few years.
• It does not age into anything. Natural marble develops a patina. This stays exactly as it was until it is damaged, and damage cannot be polished out the way it can in stone.

Being straight about it

We sell both and we will tell you which one your project actually wants. If the priority is uniformity across a large commercial area, engineered wins. If it is a family home you intend to hand on, buy the natural stone — it is the one that still looks good in thirty years.

At 12mm this is a cladding and vertical-surface material rather than a structural worktop. For countertops in engineered material, ask about the quartz range instead.
