Questions

Indian granite in Australia

Prices, finishes, sealing and how ordering direct works.

01

Why is Indian granite cheaper when bought direct?

Most granite in Australian yards is Indian or Brazilian stone that has passed through an exporter, an importer, a distributor and a yard, each adding a margin. We quarry-source and fabricate in India and ship to you, so our slab prices are typically about half of published Australian yard prices.

02

Which Indian granite is most popular in Australia?

Black Galaxy, Absolute Black (Indian Jet Black), Steel Grey and Viscount White are the Indian granites most commonly stocked by Australian stone yards. Kashmir White, Tan Brown and Black Pearl are popular lower-cost choices.

03

Do you supply only slabs, or cut benchtops too?

Both. We can ship full slabs for your local fabricator, or cut benchtops, islands and vanity tops to your drawings in our factory, with edge profiles and sink cut-outs done before shipping.

04

What is the minimum order?

Granite is sold by the slab. Smaller orders of one to three slabs ship in a consolidated container; a bundle of about six or seven slabs gets the lower end of the price range.

05

Which finish should I choose for a kitchen benchtop?

Polished is the easiest to clean and the most stain-resistant. Leathered (called lapotra in India) hides fingerprints and water marks and is now the most requested finish for dark granites in Australia. Honed is best kept to bathrooms and low-use tops.

06

Does granite need sealing?

Dark Indian granites such as Black Galaxy, Absolute Black and Tan Brown barely absorb water and rarely need sealing when polished. Light granites such as Viscount White and Kashmir White should be sealed at installation and every one to two years.
