What Steel Grey looks like
Steel Grey is the practical choice: a charcoal-grey stone with a fine, even speckle that hides crumbs, water marks and scratches better than solid black or white. Slab-to-slab consistency is excellent, so long benchtop runs and multi-unit projects match without hand-picking.
It is also one of the most versatile Indian granites outdoors. Flamed or brushed, it turns a lighter silver-grey with grip underfoot, which makes it a favourite for BBQ benches, pool surrounds and stair treads.

Where Steel Grey works best
Rental and investment kitchens
Steel Grey is very hard to stain or chip and costs less than black or white. That makes it a go-to for builders, property managers and investment units.
Outdoor kitchens and BBQ areas
Brushed or flamed Steel Grey handles fat splatter, rain and sun without fading. Grey stays noticeably cooler underfoot than black in a Brisbane or Perth summer.
Commercial counters
Cafés, reception desks and lab benches use Steel Grey for its durability and because a replacement slab years later still matches.
Steel Grey compared
- Steel Grey vs Absolute Black
Absolute Black is a solid black for a bolder look; Steel Grey is lighter, more forgiving and cheaper.
- Steel Grey vs Tan Brown
Tan Brown is the warm-toned equivalent. Pick Steel Grey for white, grey or navy schemes, and Tan Brown for timber and cream.
Care and sealing
Seal flamed and brushed outdoor surfaces once a year with a penetrating sealer. Indoors, polished Steel Grey only needs pH-neutral cleaning.
Pairs well with
Navy or sage cabinets, white gloss, stainless steel appliances, concrete render, Colorbond-style greys outdoors.

Steel Grey granite questions
Straight answers on price, finishes, sealing and shipping.
01 How much does Steel Grey granite cost in Australia?
Australian yards publish 20 mm Steel Grey from under $300 up to about $420 per m² plus GST. Shipped direct from India, our Steel Grey slab material is about $110–$230 per m² incl. GST, depending on finish and thickness.
02 Is Steel Grey granite good for outdoor use?
Yes. It is one of the best Indian granites outdoors. Choose flamed or brushed for anything you walk on: both give slip resistance and turn the stone a lighter grey that stays cooler in the sun.
03 What is lapotra finish?
Lapotra is the Indian trade name for a leathered finish: the polish is brushed back to a soft, textured surface. On Steel Grey it gives a velvety mid-grey that hides fingerprints and water spots.
04 Does Steel Grey granite vary between slabs?
Very little, which is one of its strengths. Slabs from the same quarry run look almost identical, so long runs, splashbacks and later repairs match easily.
05 How long does Steel Grey granite take to arrive in Australia?
Plan on 6–10 weeks from slab approval to arrival at your nearest port (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle or Adelaide), plus customs clearance and local delivery. Your written quote confirms the shipping schedule.
