What Black Galaxy looks like
Black Galaxy is the granite most Australians picture when they say "black with gold sparkle". The flecks are bronzite, a metallic mineral that catches downlights and pendant light, set in a deep black gabbro base. It comes from one district in Andhra Pradesh, which is why genuine Black Galaxy looks the same whether you see it in a Sydney showroom or a Perth display home.
We buy at the quarry and fabricate in our own factory, then ship to your nearest port. You choose the flake grade and the slabs from photos before anything is cut.

Where Black Galaxy works best
Kitchen benchtops and islands
Near-zero absorption means red wine, oil and coffee wipe off rather than soak in, so Black Galaxy is one of the most forgiving natural stones for a working kitchen. Its smaller slabs suit galley runs and standard islands; for waterfall islands longer than about 2.8 m, plan a join or choose 30 mm.
Bathrooms and vanities
In a vanity the flecks read like a subtle terrazzo from a distance. It is a classic pairing with brushed brass tapware in Hamptons and Art Deco renovations.
Outdoor kitchens and bars
Black heats up in full Queensland and WA sun. Under a roof, Black Galaxy is excellent for alfresco BBQ benches; for exposed tops, a lighter granite stays cooler.
Black Galaxy compared
- Black Galaxy vs Absolute Black
Absolute Black has no flecks at all. Choose Black Galaxy if you want sparkle, Absolute Black for a solid, minimal look.
- Black Galaxy vs Black Pearl
Black Pearl has larger silvery crystals and costs less; Black Galaxy is finer and more uniform.
Care and sealing
Polished Black Galaxy rarely needs sealing. Clean with warm water and pH-neutral soap; avoid vinegar and bleach sprays, which dull the polish over time. Leathered tops benefit from an annual colour-enhancing sealer.
Pairs well with
White shaker or two-pack cabinets, warm timber, brushed brass or matte black tapware, white subway or zellige splashbacks.

Black Galaxy granite questions
Straight answers on price, finishes, sealing and shipping.
01 How much is Black Galaxy granite per square metre in Australia?
Australian stone yards typically list 20 mm polished Black Galaxy at about $300–$400 per m² plus GST. Imported direct from our factory, it is about $165–$220 per m² incl. GST for slab material, depending on flake grade and order size. Fabrication, installation and local delivery are quoted separately.
02 Is Black Galaxy real granite?
Geologically it is a gabbro, a dark igneous rock, not a true granite. The stone trade sells it as granite, and it behaves like one: it is hard, heat-resistant and very low in absorption, which suits kitchens better than most marbles and many true granites.
03 What are the gold specks in Black Galaxy?
They are bronzite, a metallic pyroxene mineral, not glitter or resin. Their size sets the grade: small-flake slabs look finer, large-flake slabs more dramatic.
04 Can Black Galaxy be used for a waterfall island?
Yes, but Black Galaxy blocks are smaller than most granites, so slabs are usually under 3 m long. For long waterfalls, we match slabs from the same block and plan the join at the corner mitre.
05 How do I know the Black Galaxy I get is genuine?
Genuine Black Galaxy comes only from Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. We send photos of your actual slabs with block numbers before cutting, and a test report for the batch.
06 How long does Black Galaxy granite take to arrive in Australia?
Plan on 6–10 weeks from slab approval to arrival at your nearest port (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle or Adelaide), plus customs clearance and local delivery. Your written quote confirms the shipping schedule.
