Royal Perlato: pearled beige

Perlato means pearled, and the name describes the figure exactly — a warm beige ground scattered with paler, rounded fossil forms that catch the light like small pearls. It is one of the oldest commercial marble families in the Italian trade and remains a default choice for warm classical interiors.

The selections we hold

Royal Perlato is graded by figure, not by quality, and the selections look genuinely different:

  • Royal Perlato (standard) — even beige, regular pearling, the most consistent across a large floor.
  • Royal Perlato Cloudy — softer, more diffuse figuring where the pearls blur into cloud-like drifts. Better on walls than floors, where the movement can read as staining from a distance.
  • Royal Perlato Nocciolatonocciola is hazelnut; this selection runs browner and warmer, with denser, darker clasts.

They are not interchangeable. If you are matching an existing floor, bring a photograph or, better, an offcut — we will match against the actual lot.

Where it works

Warm interiors with timber joinery, classical detailing, and rooms that want to feel older than they are. It pairs particularly well with the teak and rosewood common in Kerala homes, and it is forgiving on stair treads because the pearled figure hides wear better than a plain beige.

Where we would steer you away

Not for a modern minimal interior — the figure is too decorative and will fight a plain scheme. And like all calcite marble it etches on acid, so keep it away from a working kitchen counter.

Practical notes

Seal on installation and annually thereafter. The fossil clasts are slightly softer than the surrounding matrix, so on a heavily trafficked polished floor they will dull first and the surface develops a subtle texture over years. Some clients like that; if you do not, specify honed from the start.
